Day 1: Exploring the Pink City – My Ultimate Jaipur Photo Guide
Welcome to the first chapter of my 8-day Rajasthan expedition! If you are a photographer or a travel enthusiast, Jaipur is the perfect starting point. On Day 1, I focused on the iconic architectural marvels that define the spirit of this royal city.
Pro-Traveler Tip: Stay & Transport
If you are planning a budget-friendly trip, here are two hacks that saved me a lot of time and money:
- Stay at Sindhi Camp: Look for hotels near Sindhi Camp. You’ll find plenty of cheap yet clean guesthouses. Plus, the Jaipur Metro station is right there, making it incredibly easy to navigate the city and avoid the main road traffic.
- Skip the Local Auto Haggle: Local auto-rickshaws often ask for very high fares from tourists. My advice? Use Uber Auto. It is much cheaper, the pricing is transparent, and it’s the most stress-free way to get around.
Skip the Queues: Book Online!
Don’t waste your precious morning hours standing in line at the ticket counters. Almost all entry tickets for these monuments are available online. * You can find the official booking links on the Rajasthan Tourism (RTDC) or the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) websites.
Whether it’s the Composite Ticket for multiple forts or individual entry for the City Palace, booking online is fast and keeps your itinerary on track.
The Day 1 Itinerary: Ticking Off the Icons
1.The Majestic Amber Palace & Amer Fort ✅
I started early at Amer Fort to catch the soft morning light. The Sheesh Mahal (Mirror Palace) is a photographer’s dream—the reflections here are surreal.

2. Panna Meena Kund & Jagat Shiromani Temple ✅
Just a short distance from the fort lies the Panna Meena Kund. This symmetrical stepwell is a geometric masterpiece. Right next to it, the Jagat Shiromani Temple offers some of the most intricate stone carvings in Rajasthan.

3. Jal Mahal: The Floating Mirage ✅
On the way back from Amer, I stopped at Jal Mahal. While you can’t enter the palace, the view of it sitting in the middle of Man Sagar Lake is incredibly peaceful.

4. Hawa Mahal & Jantar Mantar ✅
The “Palace of Winds” (Hawa Mahal) is even more beautiful in person. Just across the road is Jantar Mantar, a UNESCO site filled with massive astronomical instruments that look like modern art sculptures.

5. City Palace: Living Royalty ✅
From the stunning “Four Seasons” gates to the royal museums, the City Palace is where you truly feel the “Pink City” vibe.

6. Evening at Chokhi Dhani (5 PM – 11 PM) ✅
I ended my first day at Chokhi Dhani. This ethnic village resort is the best place to experience Rajasthani culture, folk dance, and a massive traditional Thali that is worth every calorie!
