This year, OnePlus stepped up its camera game by partnering with Hasseblad for a three-year period. The OnePlus 9 Pro, which features more natural colour reproduction, a new pro mode, and a couple of Hasselblad homages, is the first fruit of this effort.

The iPhone 12 Pro, on the other hand, continues to be one of the best camera phones, capable of competing with the best Android cameras.

A custom 48MP main large sensor, a 50MP ultrawide with a freeform lens, an 8MP telephoto with 3.3x optical zoom, and a 2MP monochrome sensor are all included in the OnePlus 9 Pro. The iPhone 12 Pro has a 12-megapixel wide-angle, 12-megapixel ultrawide-angle, and 12-megapixel telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom.

Both phones created remarkably accurate colours in this picture of a produce stand. The OnePlus 9 Pro did a fantastic job of brightening the picture just enough while maintaining the vibrancy of the colours. Although the iPhone’s image is excellent, it is slightly overexposed. However, neither picture appears to be superior to the other, so this is a tie.

This is a contrast of both phones’ ultrawide shots taken at a nearby lake & sea. Although it’s difficult to say in this OnePlus 9 Pro vs. iPhone 12 Pro comparison, the freeform lens on the OnePlus 9 Pro definitely helps with edge distortion. The iPhone shot, on the other hand, has a much richer feel to it, with much more depth. I can’t tell that the OnePlus picture appeals to me. This one goes to Apple.

While OnePlus’ Nightscape night mode has improved significantly over time, Apple’s Night Mode is simply superior and more reliable. It’s passable when OnePlus’ Nightscape is on point, but it can produce some odd images.

The 16MP front camera on the OnePlus 9 Pro does a good job with selfies, but I’ve discovered that it struggles in low or medium light situations. As you can see in the selfie above, the iPhone 12 Pro does not have this problem. It treated direct sunlight better than the OnePlus, capturing my ruddy facial tones much more accurately.

The iPhone 12 Pro wins this camera shootout thanks to its improved night mode and selfie results. The OnePlus 9 Pro put up a valiant battle, showing significant improvements over previous OnePlus devices.
